Information
< Eosamaegol Ш Nori >
This performance blends the traditional farmers’ songs of the inland western region of Gangwon-do with the archetypal melody of the taepyeongso (a Korean traditional shawm). It features an ensemble of Korean traditional music and samullori (a percussion quartet). The piece is structured around representative rhythms of farmers’ performance (nongak), following the order of gueum, gutgeori, deongdeokgungi, dadeuraegi, and hwimori. A unique aspect of this dynamic work is its evolution from traditional performance into music.
< Eosamegol V Original Collaborative Shamanic Ritual (Gut), Nanjang >
This performance draws on the traditional formations of farmers’ performance (nongak) originating from the inland western region of Gangwon-do, expressed through coordinated group movements and lively, diverse rhythms. As the collaborative shamanic ritual (gut) progresses, individual performers showcase their unique skills based on the characteristics of their instruments and rhythms. For example, a janggu (hourglass drum) player performs a dance to a gutgeori rhythm, while a kkwaenggwari (small gong) player engages in a bupo (feather-attached hat) dance. The drum player’s performance is synchronized to a jajinmori rhythm. The combination of traditional instrumental music and dance performance enhances each performer’s artistry, resulting in an unforgettable experience that celebrates both the performers’ talents and the richness of the instrumental music. -
